This is is an ultimate food item which you should have in your kitchen.
There are many meals where vegetable stock is an essential part of the recipe. As your baby is growing, around the age of 12 months is the time, when he/she can join family meals. If we want to stay sane and do not cook two different meals all the time, it is helpful to find a way, how to make at least the common base of the meal, which is tasty, but simple and still gentle to your baby`s digestive system.
For me, the easiest way to give some flavor to the meal is to use vegetable stock. Now, let’s face the truth if there isn’t a freshly cooked or frozen vegetable stock in your kitchen, what do you usually use? Is it vegetable bouillon cube or powder? If you do so, please check on the ingredients. Most of them include MSG (Monosodium Glutamate), sugar (oh, yes, the hidden sugar in our daily food is another topic), and a high amount of salt. All these three ingredients should definitely not be a part of your baby`s (and not even yours) meal plan.
When I was a child, there was a product called Vegeta. My mum used it a lot at home, so basically, I grew up on this… Unfortunately, years later I learned that the product we used to buy in the grocery store was including MSG, a high amount of salt, and sugar. Today, you can find MSG-free products, however, the vegetables present only 30-40 % of all ingredients.
Well, if you make it your own, it will consist mostly of vegetables, gives your food nice taste and it can be used for soups, sauces or meat.
To make this homemade vegetable stock powder takes a bit of patience and time but it is definitely worth it. The procedure itself is very simple.
If you dispose of dehydrator – it will make your work much easier. Otherwise, your oven is the alternative – just like I used it.
Here is the recipe:
How do you know the vegetables are dehydrated and ready for grinding?
They should look like this:
11. Now if you have the dried lovage ready, you can put it together with dehydrated vegetables and salt in the blender (food processor).
12. Pulse a few times to get the powder texture.
13. Keep it in a closed glass jar and use it whenever you feel like you would like to add some more taste to your meals.
